The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, officially inaugurated the 2026 Ghana Heritage Month at Nationalism Park in Accra, calling for a renewed national commitment to safeguarding the country’s cultural identity.

Speaking at the national launch, the Minister emphasized that deliberate cultural preservation is essential in a globalized world, positioning Ghana’s heritage as a central pillar for both national pride and sustainable economic development.

The month-long celebration, organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority under the theme “Experience Ghana, My Heritage, My Pride,” aims to leverage the creative arts and tourism sectors to generate employment, empower local communities, and stimulate domestic tourism through the promotion of Ghanaian traditions.

The 2026 program features a diverse array of activities designed to activate both cultural interest and economic participation, including the “Taste 69@69” culinary showcase, a nationwide Heritage Caravan, and the official launch of the Vodza Regatta to spotlight maritime traditions.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, noted that the month serves as a vital opportunity to redefine the meaning of independence for modern generations, encouraging citizens to “See, Eat, Wear, and Feel Ghana.” To support these initiatives, the Authority unveiled a revitalized digital platform and an enhanced Ghana Travel portal, which will provide curated information on destinations and cultural festivals for both domestic and international visitors.

The launch received significant international and local backing, with UNESCO Representative Edmond Moukala N’Gouemo commending Ghana for integrating culture into its core development agenda. As the country moves toward its 70th independence anniversary, the Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to securing further international recognition for Ghana’s tangible and intangible assets, building on previous milestones such as the global recognition of Highlife and Kente.

The event concluded with a collective call from government officials, traditional leaders, and the diplomatic corps for all Ghanaians, including those in the diaspora, to actively participate in the scheduled festivities throughout March to ensure the country’s heritage remains a vibrant engine for transformation.
