Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has pledged the Embassy’s full backing to ensure a memorable participation for the nation in the upcoming World Cup tournament. The commitment was made during a courtesy call by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, to discuss team placement and preparations.
Ambassador Smith confirmed that the Mission would work closely with the GFA to address coordination needs linked to the tournament’s multi-city schedule and to advance Ghana’s broader agenda around the competition.
He expressed optimism, noting that Ghana has experienced players who are expected to make the country proud. Mr. Simeon-Okraku confirmed that Ghana has been placed in Pot 4, Group L, alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. He highlighted that this group arrangement necessitates playing across multiple venues—Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto—which he indicated could present logistical challenges for the team and its supporting delegation.
The GFA President emphasized the need for close cooperation from the Embassy before and during the tournament to support the team’s operations and push Ghana’s national interests on the global stage, describing the World Cup as a major platform.
Furthermore, he announced that the GFA plans to launch new national team jerseys in Washington, D.C., and will use the World Cup to establish camps to identify and source young talent for the future. Following the meeting, both Ambassador Smith and the GFA President reaffirmed their commitment to work together to ensure the success of the outlined plans and Ghana’s tournament campaign.
