ACCRA, Ghana—The Government of Ghana today deported three Israeli nationals shortly after their arrival in the country, citing the “ill-treatment and unjustified deportation” of three Ghanaian nationals by Israeli authorities. This move was described by the government as “appropriate reciprocal action” taken in response to the preceding incident involving the Ghanaian citizens.
Following the retaliatory deportations, the Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of the Embassy of the State of Israel was promptly summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to the Israeli Ambassador’s absence from the jurisdiction. The Ministry used the opportunity to convey the Government of Ghana’s firm position on the matter and its commitment to safeguarding the dignity and respect of its citizens abroad. Despite the escalation, both governments have since committed to an amicable resolution of the diplomatic incident.
Ghana emphasized that it “deeply values our relations with all friendly countries” but expects its citizens to be treated with dignity and respect, mirroring the treatment Ghana extends to foreign nationals within its borders.
