The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has officially commenced the vetting process for members of the “Historic Diaspora Community” seeking Ghanaian citizenship. Starting Wednesday, February 11, 2026, applicants are being scheduled in batches for vetting sessions held at the Dubois Centre in Cantonments, Accra.
This initiative is part of a broader government commitment to integrate members of the diaspora into the Ghanaian national fabric, culminating in a ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for March 5, 2026, as part of the nation’s independence celebrations.
Due to the overwhelming number of applications received and the limited timeframe before the ceremony, the Ministry has advised applicants to wait for official notification regarding their specific vetting slots to prevent overcrowding at the Dubois Centre.
Authorities have acknowledged that while not all interested persons can be accommodated in this initial ceremonial batch, the citizenship process remains permanently open.
The Government of Ghana has assured the public that no qualified applicant will be disadvantaged, as registration continues to be available through the Ministry’s online e-services portal.
