The Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Confucius Institute of the University of Ghana, held a closing ceremony for the second edition of the Chinese Language Programme on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The event marked the successful completion of the course by public sector officials who demonstrated their newfound linguistic skills through various performances before receiving awards for their achievements.
Delivering a statement on behalf of the Ministry’s Chief Director, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu emphasized that linguistic competence is a vital asset in modern diplomacy that enhances communication and fosters deeper cultural understanding.
This sentiment was echoed by the Coordinating Director of the Foreign Service Institute, Ambassador Perpetua Dufu, who noted that the programme was established in 2025 to bolster the capacity of Ghanaian officials in cross-cultural communication within an increasingly interconnected global environment.
Representing the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Counsellor Wenfu Li expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for its dedication to Chinese language education. He remarked that such initiatives serve as a critical bridge between the two nations, further cementing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Ghana and China.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials including Professor Liu Baijun of the Confucius Institute, representatives from the Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce, and senior directors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
