The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, met with a high-level Belarusian delegation led by Foreign Minister Ryzhenkov Maxim on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, to finalize plans for deepening bilateral economic cooperation.

A central outcome of the engagement was a proposed agreement for Belarus to supply approximately 3,000 units of agricultural machinery, including tractors and modern harvesting implements, to support Ghana’s national mechanization drive.

Foreign Minister Maxim emphasized that Ghana remains a priority partner in Belarus’s strategy of economic diplomacy in Africa, noting that the two nations are working toward a significant expansion of commercial ties across multiple sectors.

The discussions also laid the groundwork for an official state visit by President John Dramani Mahama to Belarus in June 2026, which is expected to culminate in the signing of several key Memoranda of Understanding.

These agreements will focus on investment protection, the avoidance of double taxation, and the formal establishment of a Joint Trade and Economic Commission. To ensure a balanced trade relationship, both parties identified opportunities for Ghana to increase exports of cocoa derivatives, fruits, and nuts to Belarus.

Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare urged the Belarusian delegation to invest in local processing facilities, particularly for cocoa and milk powder, to create jobs and position Ghana as a manufacturing hub for the wider region.
