The global Ghanaian community is bursting with pride as Francisca Lamini, the brilliant young woman who captured national admiration during the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz, has graduated from Harvard University, earning Summa Cum Laude, the highest academic distinction awarded by the Ivy League institution this year.

For many followers of Ghana’s educational landscape, Francisca’s achievement continues a journey that once electrified the nation. In 2021, she emerged as the lone female finalist in the NSMQ, standing confidently beside her teammates, the late James Lutterodt and Bright Senyo Godzo, to represent Keta Senior High Technical School. Their unforgettable performance made Keta SHTS the first school from the Volta Region to reach the NSMQ final, a milestone that reshaped expectations and elevated the school’s global profile. The tragic passing of James Lutterodt in 2023 brought deep sorrow, yet the legacy of that historic team continues to inspire students across Ghana.
After her stellar high school performance, Francisca proceeded to Harvard College to pursue Biological Science, maintaining her long‑held ambition to advance to Medical School and contribute meaningfully to healthcare. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Harvard demands exceptional discipline, intellect, and resilience. Her rise from the classrooms of the Volta Region to the summit of Ivy League excellence stands as a testament to Ghanaian determination and academic potential.
Francisca’s success has sparked widespread celebration and reflection. Investigative journalist , Manasseh Azure Awuni, captured the national mood when he wrote, “May your academic exploits inspire many girls back home, especially those interested in STEM programmes.” Her journey affirms that when young African women are given opportunity, support, and visibility, they do not merely participate, they lead.
As Francisca Lamini prepares for the next chapter of her medical journey, she carries the pride and hopes of a nation. Her story strengthens the enduring legacy of the 2021 Keta SHTS team and stands as a beacon for girls in STEM across the continent.
Sankofaonline salutes Francisca Lamini on this monumental milestone and wishes her the very best as she advances toward becoming a medical pioneer.
