The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana issued a formal public announcement on Friday, March 13, 2026, cautioning citizens against the fraudulent activities of recruitment networks such as ONET and similar deceptive schemes.

The Ministry expressed growing concern over an increase in the number of Ghanaian nationals, particularly the youth, who are being lured abroad under false pretenses involving promises of lucrative employment, business opportunities, and assistance in securing European visas.

According to the official statement, these schemes have led to numerous victims becoming stranded in foreign countries, detained by immigration authorities, or subjected to exploitative and distressing conditions. To prevent further incidents, the Ministry strongly advised the public to exercise extreme caution and to verify all travel or job offers through official channels before making financial commitments. Parents, guardians, and community leaders were also urged to assist in educating the public on the inherent dangers of these unauthorized recruitment networks.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaian citizens and stated it is working closely with national institutions to dismantle criminal networks preying on unsuspecting individuals. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the Ministry’s consular office or to relevant security and immigration authorities immediately.
