Hormel Foods is recalling approximately 4.9 million pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat boneless chicken products sold to restaurants and other food service outlets nationwide, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The massive recall comes after customers reported finding metal fragments in the frozen chicken breast and thigh products. Hormel determined the contamination originated from a conveyor belt used during production. The recalled Hormel Fire Braised chicken items were distributed to HRI Commercial Food Service locations across the country between February 10 and September 19.
While there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses or injuries, the FSIS is urging hotels, restaurants, and other institutions that may have the products in freezers not to serve them and to immediately dispose of the items.
The recalled products were sold to food service companies, not directly to consumers. Customers with questions can contact Hormel Foods through their website or by calling 1-800-523-4635.
