Three rural communities in the Keta Municipality—Wenyagor, Alakpakope, and Agornugble—entered a new chapter of development on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as they were officially connected to the national electricity grid for the first time. The moment, described by many residents as “life‑changing,” drew large crowds who gathered to witness the historic switch-on.
The electrification project was spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Keta, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, working in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. For communities that have long relied on lanterns and generators, the arrival of electricity was met with jubilation, gratitude, and renewed optimism for the future.
In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, residents presented Hon. Gakpey with a Batakadi dress and praised both the MP and the contractor for delivering a project many had waited decades to see realized. Elders, youth, and local leaders described the day as one of the most memorable in their lives.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Gakpey thanked the communities for their steadfast support and assured them that their confidence in his leadership would continue to be honored. He emphasized the transformative power of electricity, noting its potential to expand job opportunities, boost irrigation farming, support cold storage facilities, strengthen small businesses, and improve academic performance through better study conditions. He also pledged to advocate for a CHPS Compound to enhance healthcare access in the beneficiary communities.
Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Wisdom Seade commended the MP for his commitment to development and urged residents to make full use of the new resource to advance education, entrepreneurship, and overall socio-economic growth.
The electrification of Wenyagor, Alakpakope, and Agornugble stands as a major milestone for the municipality—one that symbolizes progress, opportunity, and a brighter future for generations to come.
