Chicago’s Ghanaian community is witnessing a bold new chapter as Effah Ameyaw, affectionately known as Kakape, officially announces his candidacy for President of the Ghana National Council (GNC). With a message rooted in faith, experience, and strategic vision, Ameyaw calls on affiliate members and the wider community to support his bid to lead with integrity and purpose.
A seasoned leader with deep roots in civic engagement, Ameyaw brings a wealth of experience from Ghana, Germany, the UK, and Chicago. He previously served as Public Relations Officer during Paa Kwasi Sam’s administration and has contributed across three GNC terms. His track record includes organizing Ghanafest, volunteering at the GNC health clinic, and advocating for immigrant access to city resources—most notably through meetings with the Mayor’s senior liaison and symbolic participation in Chicago’s Peace Day.
Ameyaw’s platform centers on institutional transparency, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment. He pledges to end gatekeeping practices, strengthen documentation, and uphold the GNC constitution. His vision includes securing long-term funding for flagship programs like Ghanafest, the Community Clinic, and Independence celebrations, while expanding their reach to benefit more Ghanaians across the diaspora.
A key pillar of his campaign is the formal integration of the Council of Chiefs as a core advisory body within the GNC, reinforcing unity across Ghanaian tribes and elevating traditional leadership. He also proposes launching a Youth Hub to support emerging leaders using technology and social media to promote Ghanaian culture.
Beyond his GNC roles, Ameyaw has led initiatives in education, agriculture, and health. He is the founding President of JETFund, a scholarship scheme for youth, and has guided diasporan investments in farming through Afrifirst. His contributions to the Bono & Ahafo Association include mobilizing resources for a dialysis center in Sunyani, and his NGO, Possible Impossibilities, continues to serve the poor in Kintampo South.
Effah Ameyaw’s candidacy is not just a campaign, it is a call to regroup, reenergize, and rebuild. With the rallying cry “With God, all things are possible,” he invites the community to join him in shaping a future of inclusion, opportunity, and cultural pride.
