A major victory against cybercrime in Ghana was achieved recently as a joint operation led to the arrest of 32 Nigerian nationals suspected of operating a large-scale romance scam syndicate in Kasoa Tuba.
The successful dawn raid was meticulously executed through the concerted efforts of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana and the National Security apparatus, striking a major blow against organized online fraud networks and signaling the country’s strong stance against internet-based crime.
The operation has garnered high-level commendation, with Communications Minister Sam Dzata George publicly celebrating the success. He extended his congratulations to the “dedicated team at the Cyber Security Authority Ghana, led by their DG, Divine Selase Agbeti and the Law Enforcement Unit for another surgical strike at the heart of cyber fraud.”
The Minister further highlighted that the operation was carried out in collaboration with sister agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), underscoring a unified front against criminal elements as part of Ghana’s commitment to enhancing its international image.
The Communications Minister’s message to cybercriminals was unambiguous: “The message is loud and clear: we will come after you so long as you engage in cyber-based crime either against Ghanaians or any other person.”
This decisive action and public statement reiterate the government’s resolve to intensify efforts across the country, ensuring Ghana is an unattractive location for cybercrime and safeguarding the nation’s digital integrity.
