The Government of Ghana has announced that cocoa farmers will continue to receive the same producer price for the 2026 Light Crop Season, even as international cocoa prices fall. The decision, communicated through a circular issued by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), is intended to protect farmer incomes and maintain stability across the sector.
According to the circular signed by Dr. Francis Baah, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Agronomy and Quality Control, cocoa purchases for the new light crop season will begin on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The producer price remains pegged at GH¢1,241.76 per 30kg load for Grade I and II beans, and GH¢2,587.00 per 64kg bag. A tonne of cocoa—equivalent to 16 bags—will continue to fetch GH¢41,392.00.
The release emphasizes government’s commitment to shielding farmers from the volatility of the global cocoa market. “The producer price will remain at GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms… and GH¢2,587.00 per bag of 64 kilograms gross,” the circular states, underscoring the administration’s resolve to sustain farmer confidence during the downturn.
COCOBOD has already notified Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), relevant ministries, and other industry stakeholders to ensure a smooth rollout of the purchasing season nationwide.
The Public Affairs Department of COCOBOD encouraged stakeholders seeking further information to contact their office directly.
