The Ghanaian community in Chicago, along with supporters across the United States and around the world, has united in an extraordinary display of compassion following the tragic death of Mr. Felix Owusu, a 37‑year‑old graduate student at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Felix lost his life in a devastating car accident on January 27, 2026—a tragedy that sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian diaspora, the academic community, and all who knew him.
Felix had recently fulfilled a long‑held dream of reuniting his wife and children with him in the United States. Known for his humility, determination, and deep devotion to family, his passing has left a profound void.
A Fundraiser That Surpassed Every Expectation

In the days following the tragedy, community organizers launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Felix’s widow and young children. The initial target of $30,000 was quickly met, prompting organizers to raise the goal to $60,000 to better support the family’s long‑term needs.
Through overwhelming generosity, the campaign ultimately raised $63,773, surpassing the revised goal. Organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who donated, shared the campaign, or offered prayers and words of comfort. They emphasized that every contribution, large or small, reflected the unity and compassion that define the Ghanaian community in Chicago.
“May God continue to bless you all for your support,” organizers said, urging community members to share the message so donors know their kindness is deeply appreciated.
