A veteran legislator known for his commitment to urban renewal and youth empowerment, Mahama died following a period of illness. In strict accordance with Islamic tradition, burial rites are being held today, Monday, January 5, drawing thousands of mourners, political figures, and residents to the Nima and Kanda areas to pay their final respects.
The transition toward the final funeral rites was expedited through high-level coordination involving both parliamentary colleagues and the presidency.
Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, confirmed that a direct intervention from President John Dramani Mahama assisted in clearing administrative hurdles at the mortuary, allowing the body to be returned to the family late Sunday evening. The swift proceedings reflect the community’s desire to honor a man widely regarded as a grassroots leader and a dedicated advocate for the Zongo communities.
The Parliament of Ghana issued a formal statement expressing profound sadness over the loss of the legislator, describing him as a steadfast champion for his constituents who served with diligence and integrity.
The Speaker and leadership of the House extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Ayawaso East, noting that Mahama’s legacy of service and philanthropy would be long remembered.
