In a dazzling display of heritage and unity, the Asanteman Association of Chicago once again brought the spirit of Asante royalty to life with its second grand installation ceremony, “Nnsuaye,” held on October 26, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Seven months after the vibrant outdooring of Nana Abayie and Nana Afia Durowaa, this follow-up event elevated the cultural bar even higher,an opulent celebration steeped in reverence, rhythm, and regal symbolism.

With Nana Afia Durowaa absent, her Krontire, Nana Akosua Ako Pomaa, stepped in with grace and authority, ensuring the queen’s presence was felt in spirit and tradition. The ceremony marked the formal induction of new sub-chiefs and sub-queens into Nana Abayie’s administration, a move driven by the chief’s vision to expand leadership and strengthen community governance.

Newly Installed Leaders:

  • Sub-Chiefs:
    • Nana Baffour Agyei Ahenkan – Dwantoahene
    • Barimaba Nana Akwasi Owusu Aduomi – Apagyahene
  • Sub-Queens:
    • Nana Afrakoma Sika – Oyoko Hemaa
    • Nana Ama Buo – Niffa Hemaa

The event commenced with a majestic procession led by Nana Abayie, flanked by his sub-chiefs and sub-queens. Traditional drumming echoed through the sanctuary, setting a tone of solemnity and celebration. In keeping with tradition, the sub-queens were ceremonially ushered into office without taking an oath, yet each participated in sacred rites affirming their roles. The sub-chiefs likewise underwent customary rituals before solemnly swearing their oath of office before Nana Abayie, standing with sword in hand—a potent emblem of authority and guardianship.

In his address, Nana Abayie emphasized merit over lineage, declaring that in Chicago, the Asantefuohene’s throne is not inherited but earned. He encouraged the new leaders to serve with integrity, cautioning against distractions such as gossip and excessive social ties etc. His message was clear: leadership is a sacred duty, not a social privilege.

The ceremony drew over 500 attendees, a sea of black-clad celebrants honoring tradition. From elders to youth, the gathering reflected the vibrancy and continuity of Asante culture in the diaspora. A heartfelt prayer led by Pastor Tebi, distinguished Pastor Pentecost Church. He reminded all that kings are chosen by divine will, echoing biblical wisdom and reinforcing the spiritual gravity of the occasion.

The dance floor came alive as the newly installed sub queens and chiefs, surrounded by their lieutenants, swayed elegantly to Adowa rhythms. It was a moment of pure cultural splendor.

Adding brilliance to the ceremony were the emcees, led by the charismatic Okyeame Nana Daasebre Kwame, With deep knowledge of Asante customs and a flair for storytelling, they guided the event with precision and passion, even gently correcting elders to preserve the integrity of the proceedings. Their presence was the heartbeat of the celebration.

GN Bank, represented by its Chief Operations Officer, Chiefy Nduom, made a generous donation, reaffirming its role as a pillar of community support. Nduom encouraged all to embrace the bank’s services, highlighting its commitment to uplifting the Ghanaian diaspora.

The Nnsuaye ceremony was more than an installation, it was a reaffirmation of identity, a celebration of leadership, and a testament to the enduring legacy of the Asante people in the diaspora. View exclusive photos and video coverage from SankofaOnline’s dedicated team below:
