The Bonoman and Ahafo Association of Chicago and Midwest, in partnership with the Council of Bono and Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA), has officially announced the 2026 Annual COBAANA Convention. Taking place over Labor Day weekend on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Northbrook, Illinois, the flagship diaspora gathering brings together community leaders, elders, and diaspora organizations across North America for cultural unity and actionable humanitarian support.
Under the rallying banner, “The Health of Our People Is Our Concern: Let’s Arise and Build,” this year’s convention zeroes in on a critical healthcare deficit in West Africa by mobilizing resources to complete the COBAANA Dialysis and Medical Center Project in Sunyani, located in the Bono Region of Ghana.
A Mission for Healthcare Equity in Ghana
Access to specialized renal care remains a vital challenge across many regions in Ghana. For families in the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions, receiving regular kidney dialysis often requires long, costly travel to major metropolitan centers like Kumasi or Accra, a barrier that proves fatal for many patients.
To tackle this crisis directly, COBAANA, a non-profit umbrella organization representing citizens from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions residing across the United States and Canada, has positioned healthcare development at the heart of its mission. Proceeds from the 2026 convention will directly fund the ongoing construction, equipment procurement, and facility setup of the Sunyani Dialysis Center, establishing a localized, modern medical hub to save lives.

The highlight of the convention will be a grand Fundraising Dinner-Dance, offering an evening of Ghanaian cultural celebration, keynote addresses, traditional leadership representation, and networking.
