The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially debunked media reports claiming he reached out to President John Dramani Mahama to negotiate “safe passage” for his former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. In a strongly worded rejoinder issued in response to a publication by the Herald Newspaper, the former President’s office described the allegations as a total fabrication and utterly false.

The statement clarified that Nana Akufo-Addo has at no point contemplated, nor made any express or implied request to President Mahama or his representatives regarding the legal or political fate of Mr. Ofori-Atta. While the office acknowledged that the former President maintains a personal and professional concern for Mr. Ofori-Atta, citing both their familial ties as cousins and his long service as Finance Minister, it emphasized that this concern does not translate into a desire to interfere with the judicial process.
Reiterating the former President’s commitment to the rule of law and democratic principles, the office stated that his fidelity to the legal system remains unquestioned. The rejoinder concluded with a formal demand for the media outlets involved to publish the correction and set the record straight regarding the alleged secret consultations.
