In a powerful move toward reconciliation and global African unity, members of the African Diaspora were officially sworn in as Ghanaian citizens during a heartwarming ceremony held in Accra.
Addressing the new citizens, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang described the event as a declaration that history cannot erase the identity of a scattered people, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to providing a permanent home for the global African family.
She emphasized that the nation recognizes the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to secure international recognition for this historical injustice.
The ceremony, which blended legal formality with emotional homecoming, was characterized by the Vice President as a vital step toward cultural renewal and economic transformation. She noted that reconnecting Africa with its diaspora would unleash new possibilities for global cooperation and shared prosperity, officially welcoming the group with traditional greetings of “Akwaaba,” “Woezor,” and “Obaake.”
Adding to the significance of the day, the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, explained that the event represented the successful conclusion of a rigorous administrative process for individuals with deep ties to the nation.
He assured the public that the Ministry remains dedicated to a transparent and credible citizenship process that remains strictly consistent with the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
