The New Ghana Social Justice Forum (NGSJF) has formally petitioned the Ghana Legal Council to initiate disciplinary proceedings and consider revoking the license of Lawyer William Kusi, Esq. The action follows the lawyer’s public conduct in which he referred to Mrs. Priscilla Ofori, a grieving widow, as a “slay queen.”

In a statement released by the Forum and signed by its President, Yahaya Alhassan, the NGSJF expressed “deep concern and outrage,” arguing that Lawyer Kusi’s remarks have brought the legal profession into serious disrepute. The organisation labeled the statement as “morally reprehensible and professionally indefensible,” characterizing it as a “verbal assault against a woman in grief and a flagrant affront to womanhood, empathy, and human dignity.”

The NGSJF stressed that its concern lies “squarely with the heinous misconduct and ethical violation” displayed by the lawyer, rather than any ongoing legal dispute between the involved parties. The Forum maintains that when indecent and derogatory remarks such as “slay queen” are made publicly by a legal practitioner, it constitutes an “institutional embarrassment that undermines public confidence” in the justice system.

The petition calls for the Council to act decisively to preserve the dignity and credibility of the profession, citing the precedent set in Amarfio v. General Legal Council where a lawyer was sanctioned for professional misconduct.

Furthermore, the NGSJF urged the Ghana Bar Association to publicly condemn the lawyer’s conduct, warning that silence could be interpreted as “tacit approval or complicity.” The group stated that should the Council fail to act, it would be compelled to seek legal remedies to enforce the Council’s disciplinary obligations.
