The Chicago Okuapeman Fekuw, “Ofie,” together with the broader Ghanaian community, mourns the sudden and devastating passing of Nana Kwasi Agyepong, Kontinhene of Okwuapeman Fekuo. He transitioned early this morning at Ingalls Memorial Hospital at the age of 48.

The announcement was delivered by the President of the association, Mr. Eric Boafo, whose message captured the depth of sorrow felt across the organization:
“A mighty tree has fallen… Our Krontihene, Nana Kwasi Agyepong, has passed away sadly. Please remember the family in prayer. More details to follow soon. Respectfully, From the Office of the President.”
Information available to Sankofaonline indicates that the late Kontihene had just returned from Ghana on January 27, 2026, when he suddenly became ill. His unexpected passing has left the community stunned and deeply shaken.

Nana Agyepong was more than a traditional leader. He brought a vibrant, steady presence to every gathering. His quiet dignity serves as a pillar for countless cultural events within Chicago’s Ghanaian community. Whenever the moment called for him, especially when cultural pride and representation were on the line,he rose without hesitation, always ready to stand for his people. Beneath his quiet, unassuming demeanor,so often mistaken for shyness, lived a profound sense of responsibility and an unbreakable devotion to his community.

Former President of the Ghana National Council, Paa Kwasi Sam, a close friend of the late Kontihene, reflected on his passing with visible emotion:
“He looked shy… a man of few words,” he said. “But those few words carried meaning. He was steady, respectful, and always ready to serve. His absence will be felt in ways we cannot yet measure.”

Beyond his public role, Nana Agyepong was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Agyepong, and their four children, who now face an unimaginable loss.
The President of the Ewe Association, Ms. Selali Ayeke‑Adorsu, in mourning, said:
“Our hearts are heavy, and we, the Ewe Association of Chicago, mourn the sudden passing of the Kontihene, Nana Kwasi Agyepong of the Okuapeman Fekuw ‘Ofie’ Association. May his gentle soul rest peacefully with his Maker, and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.

As the community mourns, preparations are underway to honor his life and legacy. Funeral arrangements and official details will be communicated in the coming days.
For now, the Ofie family ask for prayers, compassion, and support for the bereaved family. A cultural guardian, a humble leader, and a cherished brother has departed far too soon. His legacy will endure in the traditions he upheld and the lives he touched.

Gone so soon.
My condolences to his young family, Okuapeman Fekuw, and Ghana community.
Every loss of life is sad, but the loss of young vibrant life is very painful. May the Almighty God offer his soul eternal rest.
There are no words that can fully ease the pain of such a sudden and profound loss.
He was truly one of a kind—someone whose presence brought calm, strength, and quiet peace to everyone around him. His kindness, humility, and love for people left a lasting mark on all of us. He will be remembered not only for who he was, but for how he made others feel: seen, welcomed, and at ease.
Please accept my sincere condolences. May the family find comfort in the love surrounding you, strength in cherished memories, and peace in knowing how deeply he was respected and loved.
With heartfelt sympathy and prayers.

My Deepest Sympathy to the Family. It Hurts! May Brother Duke Rest In Eternal Peace!
This is unbelievable. Such a young and respectful young man. May his soul have a peaceful place with his Maker.
LB, you were a well respected brother on campus and in your community. Your LBs and I are truly devastated. We will pray for your family, and we love you!
I JUST met this fine brother late last year by chance, following the Bears game in Vegas. My fraternity brother was close friends with him. Indeed he was a quiet man, but being able to be privy to conversations between him and some close friends showed that he was a wealth of insight and love that I’m certain was cherish by all in his circle. The amount of depth in his words and the joy emitted from his mere laugh will be missed. I’m glad I got to meet the brother for the time we had and I offer my condolences to his family and community. ✊
Going to miss you good, brother.
