An Editorial Message from SankofaOnline
……..We cannot build strong communities on insults, false allegations, or character assassinations as happened in the recent election campaign in Chicago .

As the sun rises on a new year, we at SankofaOnline extend our warmest wishes to you,our cherished readers across Ghana, the diaspora, and every corner of the world where our stories travel. Happy New Year. May 2026 meet you with peace, purpose, and prosperity.
This year, we renew our pledge to bring journalism that does more than inform. We commit to delivering insightful news, bold commentary, and humane storytelling, the kind that enters your homes with clarity, dignity, and truth. Our mission remains unchanged: to illuminate the issues that shape our nation and diaspora, and to elevate the conversations that strengthen our collective future.
A Call to National Leadership
As the current John Dramani Mahama administration enters its second year in office, many Ghanaians continue to express hopes for sustained momentum in national renewal. Commentators across the country have pointed to ongoing work in infrastructure, that is , roads, schools, hospitals, clinics, and many others . They have urged continued focus on economic stabilization, institutional strengthening, and the passage of key constitutional and governance reforms. Voices within civil society continue to emphasize the importance of transparency, accountability, and long-term planning in shaping a resilient national future.
The message from the public sphere is clear: this is no time for complacency. The work of rebuilding, resetting, and reimagining Ghana must continue with courage and urgency.
A Call to the Diaspora: Unity Over Division
But the responsibility for Ghana’s progress does not rest on the government or Ghanaians living in the country alone. It extends to the global Ghanaian family.
Across diaspora communities, we have witnessed extraordinary achievements: cultural preservation and promotion , philanthropy, professional excellence, and unwavering commitment to home. Yet we have also seen how quickly progress can be undermined by factionalism, inner-circle politics, and needless divisions.
This new year demands a different posture.
We must weed out behaviors that fracture our associations, such as whispered alliances, disrespect toward outsiders, decisions made by a privileged few while the majority is sidelined. Too often, promising programs never see daylight because of internal conflicts or resistance to common-sense rules meant to guide our organizations.
This cannot continue.
This must be the year we rise above narrow identities and claim the one we all share. Not as GaDangmes, Ewes, Asantes, Bonos, Ahafos, Frafras, or Dagbanis, but as Ghanaians; equal, dignified, and united by a common heritage.
There are no royal lineages in the diaspora, no thrones to inherit, no crowns to cling to. Leadership is service, not entitlement. When a tenure ends, executive or ceremonial, it must end with grace.
Those who seek to divide us for power must turn a new leaf, for the cost of division is too high and the reward too small.
And let us be clear:
There are no half Ghanaians among our children. No “alien” Ghanaians in our youth. They are all ours, fully, proudly, and beautifully Ghanaian.
A Higher Standard of Conduct
We cannot build strong communities on insults, false allegations, or character assassinations as happened in the recent election campaign in Chicago . Power gained through destruction is power without legitimacy. And no one, no matter how experienced, is a repository of all knowledge.
But when we bring our ideas together, when we honor each other’s strengths, when we choose unity over ego, no force can defeat us.
A Year to Rise Together
So let this be the year we hold hands across our differences.
The year we choose truth over rumor, service over self-interest, and unity over division.
The year we remember that our strength has always come from our togetherness.
At SankofaOnline, we will continue to walk with you, documenting our triumphs, interrogating our challenges, and celebrating the unbreakable spirit of Ghanaian people everywhere.
May 2026 be the year we rise higher, stand stronger, and build a future worthy of our name.
Happy New Year
