March 30, 2025, Chicago, Illinois: The Asanteman Association of Chicago hosted an unforgettable cultural extravaganza, unveiling its newly elected chiefs and queens in a ceremony brimming with tradition, pride, and unity. Held at the Blessed Maria Parish on West Washington Boulevard, Chicago, the event epitomized Asante heritage, bringing together over 400 attendees, ranging from youthful enthusiasts to wise elders. Distinguished guests included Mr. Kassim Abubakari and Dr. Eunice Cromwell, President and Vice President of the Ghana National Council (GNC), alongside esteemed community leaders like Reverend Dr. Kofi Noonoo, former President Paa Kwasi Sam, and other notable chiefs and queens. This gathering began a new leadership chapter steeped in cultural richness and forward-looking ideals. Elections are conducted every four years to select new leaders for the Association.
The ceremony began with the stirring rhythms of fontomfrom drums, setting an ambiance of respect and anticipation. Reverend Dr. Kofi Noonoo led the crowd in a heartfelt prayer, calling down blessings for the evening ahead. As his words echoed through the air, a wave of collective pride surged among the attendees, uniting them in faith and purpose.
A New Era of Leadership: Chiefs and Sub-Chiefs
At the heart of this historical moment was the newly inaugurated Asantefuohene of Chicago, Nana Kwame Frimpong, who revealed his stool name, Nana Abayie, symbolizing renewal and unity. Nana Afia Durowaa, the newly installed Asantefuohemaa of Chicago, shared the spotlight as she gracefully presented Nana Abayie to the audience in a gesture rich with Asante tradition.

The outgoing Asantefuohene, Nana Addai Baffour, highlighted his achievements during his tenure, including projects like supporting the Kumasi Children’s Home, renovating the maternity block at Ward A1, and providing over 70 hospital beds. He thanked Nana Abena Amponsah, elders, executives, and the Ghanaian community for their support, leaving a legacy of service and development.
Mr. Kassim Abubakari urged Nana Abayie to focus on unity by reconnecting with dissatisfied association members. This appeal for reconciliation highlighted the significance of harmony for community development.
