Anlo‑Afiadenyigba became the center of national attention on Saturday, February 28, 2026, as high‑ranking government officials, political leaders, traditional authorities, and community members gathered for the final funeral rites of the late Presbyter Henrietta Atsufui Avuglah, mother of Keta’s Member of Parliament, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey. The ceremony drew a remarkable show of solidarity, reflecting the deep respect and affection she inspired throughout her life.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama and the Presidency, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, led a distinguished delegation that included Volta Regional Minister James Gunu, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mawutor Agbavitor. Leadership of the ruling NDC and several dignitaries from across the region also joined the family to pay their respects.
The atmosphere was solemn yet dignified as clergy, traditional leaders, family, and friends celebrated the life of a woman remembered for her unwavering devotion to the church and her commitment to raising her children with strong values. At 76, Presbyter Henrietta Avuglah had become a pillar of faith and service in her community, touching countless lives with her humility and kindness.

Speaking on behalf of the people of the Volta Region, Regional Minister James Gunu extended heartfelt condolences to MP Gakpey, his siblings, and the extended Gakpey and Avuglah families. He emphasized the profound emotional weight of losing a mother, noting that such a loss leaves a void that is felt deeply by both family and community. He added that the overwhelming turnout was a testament to the high regard in which she was held and a reminder of the unity that binds the region: when one family mourns, the entire community stands together.
The ceremony blended tradition, faith, and national solidarity, offering a fitting farewell to a woman whose life embodied service and devotion. As the final prayers were said and tributes shared, the gathering affirmed the enduring impact of Presbyter Henrietta Avuglah’s legacy.
