Holiday greetings to all Ghanaians. As we celebrate the election of John Dramani Mahama, it is crucial to recognize that this victory should not be seen as business as usual. The election of Mahama is a call for transformative leadership, where the focus is on progress and tangible results rather than rewarding party loyalists.
For far too long, individuals have been rewarded with government positions for their party loyalty, yet they have delivered minimal tangible progress.A good campaign manager does not necessarily make a good minister of health or agriculture. We have witnessed many who, despite holding significant titles, have failed to make a meaningful impact.
We urge President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the appointment of dedicated and patriotic officers who can think outside the box and bring about generational transformation. It is essential to choose a cabinet that includes experts from academia, business leaders, members of other minority parties, and capable individuals from the NDC. These appointments should not be square pegs in round holes as we have seen in the past, but rather individuals who can drive the country forward.
The examples set by leaders in countries like Niger and Burkina Faso demonstrate that business as usual cannot propel a nation towards progress. These young leaders have shown that innovative and dedicated leadership can achieve remarkable results in the shortest possible time.
Ghana stands at a critical juncture. If the current NDC government fails, the hopes and dreams of many Ghanaians will be shattered, leading to unimaginable consequences. For the sake of Ghana’s future, we urge our chiefs, elders, and all stakeholders to allow the President-elect a free hand to assemble a forward-looking cabinet that can elevate this country to the level it deserves.
Indeed, the proverbial elephant is dead, but we must not rush to share the spoils without considering the long-term impact.
Over to you, Mr. President-elect. The nation looks up to you for leadership that will bring about real change and progress.
Happy New Year to all, and may Ghana’s future be bright and prosperous.
