What began as a casual encounter between a professor and a student at the NIU campus in DeKalb, Illinois, blossomed into a beautiful marriage and two brilliant children. The couple aptly named their celebration “A Celebration of God’s Sense of Humor and the Montana-Hosi Long-Lasting Commitment.”

Montana first met Dzifa at the NIU campus after finishing his lectures for the day. She was wearing beautifully attractive pajamas that day. Oh yes, she was in pajamas at school! Their paths crossed again at the Africanfest, and although Montana couldn’t recognize her at first, their story soon wove into a tapestry of enviable love. On their first date, Montana’s attempt to impress Dzifa by cooking the popular Ghanaian dish, Waakye, was a disaster. It was “rice and beans swimming in hot liquid.” However, love can find its own path, and what is destined in heaven finds a way to materialize on earth. From that day, they began a journey that resulted in 15 years of solid and enduring marriage.

During the celebration, Mr. Montana reaffirmed his love for Dzifa, saying, “Dzifa, from the day I met you to today, I love you the same way I loved you the first time. I love you more than you can ever imagine.” He also took the opportunity to thank his father-in-law, mother-in-law, and faculty members for their support over the years. Dzifa responded with a smile, “He said it all. I call him my sugar daddy.”

One of the most touching moments of the evening was when Dzifa had a dance with her father. Since her father initially disapproved of the marriage, she missed the traditional father-daughter dance. As Luther Vandross’s timeless song “Dance with My Father” played in the background, father and daughter clutched into each other’s arms, creating one of the best moments of the evening.
Members of the audience were invited to share their stories about the couple, adding to the joyous atmosphere. The backyard of the Montana and Dzifa Hosi’s house was transformed into an outdoor-like restaurant, with beautifully decorated farmhouse tables and a sumptuous buffet.

The event was attended by members of the DeKalb community, Montana’s faculty members, some members of the Ewe Association of Metropolitan Chicago, the Ghana Northern Union, and others.

Pastor Eric committed the event into the Lord’s hands while Brother Abu read verses from the Quran, honoring their faith.

The dynamic duo Kwame Abaloo and Priscilla Baffour masterfully emceed the event. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many friends who helped set up the occasion, with special recognition to Ethel Adongo and Adorkor Johnson. The stunning decorations, crafted by Becky’s Creations, added a touch of elegance to the celebration.

A special shoutout goes to Augusta Hosi, Dzifa’s mom, Rosemary Amegashie, and all the wonderful attendees who made the event unforgettable.

The celebration was filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt moments, reflecting the couple’s enduring commitment and the community’s support.

  1. Congratulations. I love this Dzifa .
Back when I was a child,
Before life removed all the innocence,
    My father would leave behind
and dance with my mother and me and then
spin me around ’till I fell asleep
then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved.
