ACCRA – At a recent forum focused on women’s public leadership in Ghana, panelists called for male allies to help close persistent gaps in governance. Hosted by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development and Afrobarometer, the event, titled “#CountryTalkGhana: Beyond Representation,” aimed to facilitate discussions on building inclusive governance.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Klottey-Korle Constituency Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, a panelist at the event, emphasized the need for “male champions” and “role models who understand the value of bringing more women on board.”

She was joined on the panel by Nana Efua Bedwei, an Amujae Leader, and Josephine Appiah-Nyamekye Sanny, Afrobarometer’s Director of Communications, with Professor Audrey Gadzekpo serving as the moderator. The discussion highlighted personal stories and data to underscore the challenges women face in Ghanaian public life.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’s key takeaway was that lasting change for women’s leadership requires men to stand with them as they drive progress.
