Cape Coast Ghana: The past weekend was the turn of the 2001 old school girls of Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast, to host the school’s 186th Speech and Prize Giving Day. The event was a glamour to behold. Dressed in green and yellow Kente fabrics, the scene was magnificent for the optics. The various Alumni of the school take turns hosting the event yearly. The gathering helps promote and deepen the cordial ties among the school’s alumni, Students, Staff, and Management of the school.
Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) is an educational institution for girls in Cape Coast in the Central region of Ghana. It was founded in 1836 by Harriet Wrigley, the wife of a Methodist minister, and named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.
Besides the Prize and speech day, they engage in social events, such as mixers, happy hours, galas, homecoming events, alumni award ceremonies, and class reunions. Such gatherings give the Old School Girls a unique opportunity to take a break from work and reconnect with former classmates and other alumni.
Meaningful conversations, camaraderie, outstanding music collections, dancing, and mouthwatering African cuisine entice past students back to their alma mater on those occasions. Indeed, most attendees concur that this year’s event was a lot of fun.
Lucy Quist summarized the feelings of other old students when she said, “So I am deeply grateful and feel privileged that the Lord ordered my steps to this school. At last weekend’s homecoming, I got to present a prize to my classmate’s daughter, among others. I think of her and all my amazing younger sisters. The next generation is here!!!”
The old students have just started building an ICT lab for the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind (Cape Deaf) and renovated some wards at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. They also raise funds during occasions like this to support school and community projects.
Congratulations to the pride of Cape Coast for the services you provide to your Alma Mater and the community around the school.
We bring to our worldwide audience pictures of the event:
