The Volta Regional Police Command on Monday, November 17, 2025, destroyed by burning six hundred fertilizer sacks of seized narcotic drugs, locally known as Indian hemp, following a directive from the Ho Circuit Court. The massive haul, which had an estimated face value of about 4.2 billion Ghana cedis, weighed a total of forty-seven thousand, five hundred and thirty kilograms (47,530Kg). The exhibits were completely incinerated at the Klee dumping site in Ho, signifying a major victory in the region’s fight against drug trafficking.
The destruction was officially mandated by the Ho Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Felix Datsumor Esq., after the narcotics were successfully tendered in evidence during the trial. The exhibits were originally seized by the Police Command in 2022 in the case titled the Republic versus Yao Kwadwo @Wallako, and two others. The exercise involved the complete burning of the sacks, commencing around 2:30 PM and concluding late in the evening at 10:30 PM, to ensure the full elimination of the controlled substance.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of multiple agencies to ensure compliance with judicial and environmental protocols. Officials present included Mr. Moses Dzanfi, the Circuit Court Registrar, State Attorney Mr. Joseph Opusomah, Mr. Daniel John Pekyi of the Narcotic Control Commission, and Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor from the Environmental Protection Authority. The entire process was monitored by the Police, National security operatives, and the media. In a statement confirming the event, Chief Inspector of Police Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Volta Region, conveyed the Regional Police Command’s appreciation for the support of all stakeholders in the ongoing fight against the drug menace.
