Accra, Ghana – Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption, acknowledging that despite past efforts, significant financial losses continue to plague the nation.
Speaking at the High-Level Conference on Ghana’s Anti-Corruption Architecture, she emphasized that the current situation demands urgent and robust action.
The Vice President highlighted Ghana’s established approach to fighting corruption, which has historically leveraged investigative journalism, active civil society engagement, and institutional oversight. However, she conceded that more needs to be done, citing reports and statistics that reveal the extensive impact of corruption-related financial losses.
To address this challenge head-on, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s administration’s resolve through bold initiatives. These include “Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL),” the implementation of a Code of Conduct for government appointees, a planned review of the 1992 Constitution, and the appointment of a Presidential Advisor dedicated to the National Anti-Corruption Programme.
She concluded her remarks by stressing that the battle against corruption transcends mere systemic changes; it necessitates a collective choice to demand accountability from both citizens and those in power.
The Vice President underscored the importance of building a better Ghana and Africa for future generations, asserting that with courage, accountability, and collective resolve, success is achievable.
