Unhealthy Competition- By Dzifa Gomashie.

There’s evidence on this wall on my call for the curriculum to be changed from the colonial legacy to one that meets our specific situation.

My reason is, we are too focused on self we do not see anything else, not each other nor the environment we live in. We see only what is in front of us.

Our education sets us up to fight each other. It makes us see individual achievement and not the collective good making us unnecessarily envious of each other.

We are taught that we must pass our exams; math (arithmetic) and reading (English). In recent time we have become obsessed with science or the more trendy version called STEM.

We are not taught to apply what we learn to who and what we are, where we are and how to use what we have to develop our environment.

We do not know how to be happy for others. We cannot be happy that someone did better than us.

Can you count the number of times even the Master of Ceremony aka MC, has to appeal, cajole, coerce and pray that we clap for anyone and everyone who performs a task at an even?

We have accepted that we aren’t good enough for each other. We aren’t happy for each other. We must always find something wrong with everything. We fix what is not broken and leave what is broken unfixed.

We need to be taught to see each other and appreciate team work. We must learn about our environment and its impact on our very existence. We must stop copying everything without adding any value to the chain.

We must cultivate the habit of celebrating each others achievements and applaud each other. We must give constructive criticism and learn to accept correction.

Not everything must be chewed, poured and forgotten. Share experiences seek wisdom and knowledge from those who have walked the path you seek to travel on.

One love!
