An early morning downpour could not dampen the spirits of organizers or participants as they gathered at Remington Lakes Sports Complex Park on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Rain-soaked paths gave way to determined footsteps and umbrellas held high, setting the tone for a day of solidarity under gray skies.

Women of Hope International carries a sacred vision: to reach women across the globe with the redeeming message of our Lord Jesus Christ and to support those affected by breast cancer. Their mission is rooted in lifting one another in prayer, bearing each other’s burdens, and walking together in faith and grace. This gathering was a living testament to that calling.

They set the stage with their annual Walk and Picnic, inviting neighbors and friends to join a celebration of movement, fellowship, and well-being. The sprawling green of the park transformed into a vibrant hub where laughter mingled with raindrops and umbrellas created a colorful mosaic against the overcast sky.

At the heart of the festivities, the Ghana Nurses Association Illinois , GNI, and the Ghanaian Community Clinic, GCC, stood shoulder to shoulder, turning an annual walk and picnic into a comprehensive health fair. Tents lined the park’s edge, each offering free breast cancer education and screenings, vital-sign checks, and consultations with dedicated nurse practitioners.

Participants received personalized care with free blood pressure and glucose tests, screening for a range of health issues, and one-on-one guidance on prevention and self-exams. Every measurement came with context: gentle explanations of results, tips for maintaining wellness, and referrals for follow-up care when needed.

Guiding this dual mission was Dr. Eunice Cromwell, Director of the Ghanaian Community Clinic, whose presence bridged two vital roles. She led dynamic health-education talks beside picnic blankets before stepping into the GCC clinic site to oversee screenings, ensuring that every person left informed, empowered, and heard.

The benefits of the day were immediate: families walked away with action plans for healthier lives, friends formed new support networks, and elders passed wisdom on to the next generation. This event was only the beginning of a series of free sessions hosted by GNI and GCC workshops, satellite clinics, and community forums designed to sustain momentum and deepen the impact.

Over the years, Women of Hope International has mobilized generous support that has delivered healing, restored dignity, and provided life-saving care to countless women courageously battling breast cancer throughout Illinois.

In his stirring remarks, Mr. Kassim Abubakari, President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, passionately called on the community to stand united in support of the life-saving work of the Community Clinic, the empowering outreach of the Ghana Nurses Association Illinois, and the soul-nourishing mission that Women of Hope International so boldly champions.

We at Sankofaonline extend our heartfelt gratitude to Women of Hope International for convening this transformative gathering, and to every volunteer, sponsor, and participant whose dedication made it possible. Your energy and care remind us that health is a shared journey, not a solitary path.

Stay tuned for announcements on upcoming workshops and clinics by the Ghana Nurses Association Illinois and the Ghanaian Community Clinic. Bring your family, bring your friends, and bring your questions, together, we will continue walking toward a healthier, stronger community.
