Accra, Ghana – The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho has been renamed the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences, Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu announced during the inauguration of the university’s new Governing Council.
Established in 2011, UHAS has grown to become a leading institution in Ghana’s health sector, offering a range of programs in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and other allied health sciences. The university’s mission is to provide high-quality education and training to health professionals, with a focus on improving healthcare delivery in Ghana and beyond.
The renaming of UHAS is a tribute to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who played a pivotal role in the university’s establishment. According to Minister Iddrisu, the decision to rename the university is a testament to President Mills’ commitment to improving health and education in Ghana. The university’s Council Chair, Prof. Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the decision, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and nation-building.
The renamed institution will continue to focus on training skilled health professionals to meet the needs of Ghana and beyond. With its strong academic programs and research initiatives, the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences is poised to remain a key player in Ghana’s healthcare sector, producing graduates who are equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.
