Independent presidential candidate George Twum Barima Adu has made a bold campaign promise to abolish the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and replace it with E-Sika, a groundbreaking financial empowerment policy. Unveiled at the presidential encounter at GBC on November 19, 2024, E-Sika is a key component of Twum Barima’s “Common Prosperity for All” flagship policy, aimed at bridging the income inequality gap and promoting economic growth.
Under E-Sika, citizens will automatically save a portion of their electronic payments, fostering a culture of financial growth and security. E-Sika accounts will be divided into pension, housing, and welfare sections, conveniently attached to the Ghana Card. This innovative approach ensures that every Ghanaian can generate prosperity, regardless of location, identity, or wealth.
As Twum Barima explained, “Any time you spend money using mobile or electronic payment, you’ll be deducted, but you’ll also save… You spent 50 cedis, but you saved, because that percentage has gone to your own savings account.” This simple yet powerful concept has sparked interest among Ghanaians seeking economic reform.
In addition to E-Sika, Twum Barima has also proposed an “Agric for Wealth” policy, aimed at revolutionizing Ghana’s agricultural sector and unlocking its immense economic potential ¹.
