Transport fares in Ghana are set to decrease by 15% starting Saturday, May 24, 2025, following negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport. The fare adjustment is in response to recent macroeconomic developments, including the appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, which has led to a notable drop in fuel prices.

The decision comes after a directive from the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, urging its members to reduce auto parts prices in response to the improved exchange rate. This development is expected to bring some relief to commuters who have been grappling with high transportation costs.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has confirmed the fare reduction, describing it as a timely measure to ease the financial burden on commuters. According to Abass Imoro, Industrial Relations Officer of GPRTU, the 15% fare reduction will take effect from Saturday, May 24.

The fare reduction is expected to benefit many Ghanaians who rely on public transportation for their daily activities. While spare parts sellers have promised to reduce some of their prices, the reduction in transport fares is seen as a welcome relief for commuters.
