
Thousands of mourners gathered in Asante Mampong to pay their respects to the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Asante Mamponghene, during a one-week observation ceremony. The event drew a large crowd, including dignitaries such as former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP members, and traditional leaders.
The ceremony, held on Monday, May 12, was attended by notable figures including the Paramount Chief of the Kumawu Traditional Area, Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Koduah, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong. The late chief’s passing was met with an outpouring of grief from the community.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II passed away after a short illness, although the exact date of his death was not specified. Before ascending to the Mampong stool, he served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi and practiced as a lawyer.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed that burial arrangements be made within weeks. The Asante Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, has been tasked with overseeing the preparations, in accordance with Ashanti customary rites.
