The Tamale High Court has directed officials of the Electoral Commission in the West Mamprusi Municipality to present the ballot box containing votes cast during the January 27, 2024, NPP Walewale primary. Additionally, the court ordered the submission of the voter register used in the elections to the court registry by the close of business on June 26, 2024.

On June 24, Justice Richard Kugyapaw presided over a court session that placed an injunction on Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru, preventing him from presenting himself as the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the WalewaleConstituency, North East Region.
The legal actions stem from a challenge to the election results by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia LaribaZuwera. Dr. Abudu Kabiru was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission after defeating Hajia Lariba Zuwera in the January 27 primary, securing 145 votes.
Hajia Lariba Zuwera contested the election results by filing a case at the Tamale High Court. In an attempt to resolve the dispute, the NPP requested an out-of-court settlement. Justice Richard Kogyapwah granted the party’s request for a six-week period to settle the matter out of court on March 27, 2024.
Amidst the ongoing conflict, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana, the NPP North East Regional Chairman of the Council of Elders, has criticized Vice President and party flagbearer Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to resolve the internal disagreements within the Walewale Constituency.
