Supreme Court nominee Justice Hafisata Amaleboba has revealed that Ghana’s courts face significant manpower shortages, hindering the expeditious delivery of justice. According to Justice Amaleboba, some courts have as many as 300 cases pending before a single judge, leading to delays in justice delivery.

Speaking during her vetting by the Appointments Committee, Justice Amaleboba identified lengthy procedures and lack of timelines for cases as major obstacles to speedy justice delivery. She urged the relevant authorities to review court procedures to fast-track cases.

Justice Amaleboba also shared her views on various issues, including limiting the number of judges at the Supreme Court, marital property distribution, and bail conditions. She emphasized that marital property distribution is not based on gender and that all offenses are now bailable, with suspects having the liberty to apply for variation of bail conditions when necessary.
