Supreme Court Dismisses Objection Against Acting Chief Justice

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed an objection raised by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame against the participation of acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie in a case concerning the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The objection claimed that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s role was “unprecedented” and could undermine public confidence in the judiciary’s independence. However, the Supreme Court panel overruled the objection, stating that the concerns raised did not disqualify Justice Baffoe-Bonnie from presiding over the proceedings.

The panel, comprising five justices, will continue to hear the case, which centers on the controversial suspension of Chief Justice Torkornoo. The court’s ruling paves the way for further legal arguments in the matter.
