Ghana’s struggles in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers have sparked concerns among supporters, and former Black Stars player Prince Tagoe has identified the key to turning the team’s fortunes around.
According to Tagoe, the Black Stars will only succeed if players can replicate at least 80% of their club-level performances on the national stage. Ghana’s talented squad has underwhelmed in the qualifiers, managing just two points from three games in Group F.
The team’s poor run includes a defeat to Angola and draws against Niger and Sudan, with the latest setback being a goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.
Tagoe, who spoke to Bryt FM, emphasized that attitude, not talent, is the main issue plaguing the team. “We have talented players, but their attitude towards Black Stars games is lacking,” he said.
With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, Ghana faces a crucial away match in Tripoli, Libya, against Sudan in the return leg. Coach Otto Addo and his team must secure a positive result to stay in contention for a spot at AFCON 2025.
Tagoe’s assessment echoes the frustrations of fans, who expect more from the talented Black Stars squad. As Ghana prepares for the make-or-break clash in Libya, the players must raise their game to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
The Black Stars’ next match will be a litmus test of their resolve and determination. Can they summon the required 80% of their club form to revive their qualifying campaign? Only time will tell.
