In a night of glitz and glamour at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center, Stonebwoy, the acclaimed Reggae Dancehall artiste, clinched the prestigious Artiste of the Year award at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), marking his second victory in this category since 2015.
The ‘Into the Future’ hitmaker faced stiff competition from notable artists such as Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, and Nacee but emerged victorious, adding to his impressive haul of five additional accolades. These included International Collaboration of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year for his latest work, ‘5thDimension’—his first studio release in three years.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Stonebwoy took to the stage to express his heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, known as the Bhim fans, and shared the triumphant moment with his wife, Dr. Louisa Setakla, and other close family members. Despite preparing a lengthy speech, the artiste found himself at a loss for words, instead offering thanks to the divine and his mother for their blessings.
In a show of sportsmanship, Stonebwoy acknowledged his fellow nominees for their remarkable talent and dedication, while also extending his appreciation to his fans for their unwavering support.
Before exiting the stage, Stonebwoy made a poignant appeal to the event organizers, Charterhouse, requesting the announcement of the results from the 2019 Ghana Music Awards—a ceremony that was marred by an altercation between himself and Shatta Wale, leading to a one-year suspension for both artists.
As the evening concluded, Stonebwoy’s victory not only celebrated his musical achievements but also signaled a moment of reconciliation and unity within the Ghanaian music industry.
