Born to Ghanaian parents who once called Matteson, Illinois home before relocating back to Ghana, Linda Sackey has carved out an illustrious career that serves as an inspiration to many.

A Stellar Academic Journey

Linda Sackey’s path to success began with a strong academic foundation. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the United States. Her pursuit of legal excellence continued at the University of Chicago Law School, where she obtained her Juris Doctor. These esteemed educational achievements laid the groundwork for a career marked by unwavering commitment and outstanding accomplishments.

A Trailblazing Legal Career

With nearly two decades of legal experience, Linda Sackey’s journey is a testament to her relentless pursuit of justice and equity. Her career commenced as a Staff Law Clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She then joined Mayer Brown LLP, where she honed her skills in complex commercial and appellate litigation over five productive years. Her dedication and expertise earned her a position as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Appeals Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, a role she held from 2013 to 2018.

In 2016, Linda Sackey shared her knowledge and passion for the law as an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School, which is now the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. Since 2019, she has served as a Judicial Clerk to Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis, providing invaluable insights and support.

A Historic Appointment

On December 11, 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court, under the guidance of Justice P. Scott Neville, appointed Linda Sackey as an At-Large Circuit Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County. This historic appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge William H. Hooks and is a testament to Sackey’s exceptional legal acumen and dedication to public service. Her term as Circuit Judge begins on January 24, 2025, and will conclude on December 7, 2026.
