Accra, Ghana – The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a South African national at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle over 30 kilograms of cannabis into Ghana. The suspect, who arrived on a flight from Thailand, was apprehended by NACOC officials following intelligence that led to a thorough search of his luggage.

The illicit substance was found carefully concealed in vacuum-sealed packages hidden within his personal belongings. In a major development, an airline official stationed at KIA was also arrested for allegedly aiding the foreign national in bypassing routine security checks. NACOC officials revealed that preliminary investigations suggest a coordinated effort between the two individuals to smuggle the cannabis into the country.

Both suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The Commission reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward drug trafficking, assuring the public that stringent measures remain in place to prevent such activities and warning that anyone found complicit will face the full rigours of the law.
