Accra, Ghana – Ghanaian music icon and four-time GRAMMY nominee Rocky Dawuni has teamed up with three-time GRAMMY winner Cedella Marley, daughter of reggae legends Bob and Rita Marley, for a new global anthem titled “I Got A Song.” The single, released worldwide on July 18, 2025, via AQUARIAN Records and distributed by Tuff Gong International, is described as a love song rooted in the essence of humanity.
“I Got A Song” draws inspiration from the Australian Aboriginal concept of “songlines” or “dreaming tracks,” which Dawuni encountered during a recent tour. These “songlines” serve as a cultural passport and a repository of knowledge, connecting individuals to their ancestral lands across generations.
Dawuni stated that the song and his collaboration with Marley honor the spirit of global connection and invoke a call for harmony, identity, and purpose through the joy of love. Marley added that “I Got a Song” highlights the power within individual voices and cultures, serving as a bridge between past and future, continents, and communities.
The track was recorded at Hen House Studios in Venice, CA, featuring a lineup of renowned musicians including Santa Davis (drums), John McKnight (bass and guitar), and Anthony Brewster (keyboards). It was engineered by Harlan Steinberger and mixed by Bob Riddim, who also mixed Dawuni’s GRAMMY-nominated “Neva Bow Down.” Cedella Marley’s vocals were recorded at Studio C in Miami with Fareed Salamah as engineer.
“I Got A Song” aims to be a timeless collaborative anthem of unity and interconnection, echoing the philosophy and spirituality that links Africa to the Diaspora.
