Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko a renowned electronic communications engineer and respected regulatory professional, has been appointed Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), effective January 22, 2025. He takes over from Dr. Joe Anokye, who stepped down following a change in government.
With over 20 years of experience in telecom and broadcasting regulation, spectrum management, policy formulation, and ICT industry leadership, Rev. Ing. Fianko brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. His reputation as a global authority in radiocommunications was solidified when he was elected to the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 2022.
Rev. Ing. Fianko’s journey with the NCA began in 2004 as a frequency management officer. He rose through the ranks, becoming Acting Head of the Engineering Division in 2021 and later Director of Engineering in 2024. His contributions to Ghana’s telecom regulatory landscape are significant, including overseeing key licensing processes and advising ECOWAS, Benin, and The Gambia on broadcasting and LTE licensing.
As Director-General, Rev. Ing. Fianko will leverage his technical expertise, regulatory experience, and visionary leadership to drive Ghana’s telecom sector forward. His appointment marks a new chapter for the NCA, and his dedication to spiritual and community development will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the organization.
