The funeral of celebrated broadcaster Godwin Avenorgbo, affectionately known as “The Grandmaster,” will take place on September 14, 2024, at 1 pm at the Lashibi Funeral Home near Accra. The dress code for the occasion is “Black and White.”
According to a statement issued by Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the funeral arrangements were finalized by the family of the late broadcaster. A Book of Condolence has been opened in Avenorgbo’s memory at the Ghana International Press Centre, where tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and admirers.
Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar described Avenorgbo as a joy-bringer and enlightenment-bearer who left an indelible mark on Ghana’s media landscape. GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour celebrated Avenorgbo’s life as one worthy of commemoration, while Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, a former GJA President, hailed him as a quintessential peacemaker and devoted professional.
Godwin Avenorgbo passed away on August 19, 2024, after a sudden illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the broadcasting community.
