Professor Youhwan Kim Appointed to Boost Para Sports in Ghana

The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana has officially welcomed Professor Youhwan Kim as its new Technical Advisor and Sports Development Director to enhance the para sports landscape in Ghana, The introduction ceremony, held at the NPC-Ghana Secretariat in Accra, marked the beginning of Professor Kim’s one-year tenure, during which he will focus on promoting inclusivity in sports and empowering athletes with disabilities.

Professor Kim, deployed by the Korean Government through KOICA, brings a wealth of experience in para sports development. He expressed his enthusiasm for working in Ghana, stating, “I can see the excitement from the streets, and I believe Ghana has a bright future in para sports.” He emphasized his commitment to advancing para sports across Africa and making a meaningful contribution during his time in Ghana.

NPC-Ghana President Samson Deen praised Professor Kim’s expertise, highlighting its potential to positively impact the local sporting community. Deen also expressed gratitude to the Korean Government, the Korean National Paralympic Committee, and KOICA for their unwavering support of Ghana’s Paralympic movement.

The NPC-Ghana has outlined several objectives for Professor Kim’s tenure, including:

  • Providing Technical Advice: Offering expert guidance to enhance para sports development in Ghana.
  • Enhancing Capacity Building: Strengthening local capacity to support athletes with disabilities.
  • Creating a Strategic Roadmap: Developing a plan to prepare Ghana for qualification events leading up to the 2028 Paralympic Games.

These initiatives aim to create a more inclusive sporting culture in Ghana, empowering athletes with disabilities to thrive and achieve their dreams on the international stage. With Professor Kim’s guidance and expertise, the NPC-Ghana is poised to make a significant impact on the para sports landscape in Ghana.
