The Running Mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that the upcoming general elections are free, fair, and transparent. She made this plea during a courtesy call on the Chief of Akyem Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, in the Abuakwa North constituency of the Eastern Region.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed concern over the pockets of violence that marred the recent limited registration and voter transfer exercises, and urged the Electoral Commission to put measures in place to prevent a repeat of such incidents during the general elections.
She also entreated traditional leaders to take an interest in the management of Ghana’s electoral system and speak out when necessary to ensure violence-free elections. The Chief of Akyem Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, echoed Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s sentiments, urging the Electoral Commission to be fair and impartial in its dealings with all political parties.
Additionally, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV lamented the collapse of the agricultural industry in the area, particularly the work of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), and appealed to the next NDC administration to revive it when the party wins the December 7 general elections.
