Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of John Mahama in the upcoming presidential election, has departed for Harare, Zimbabwe to formally disengage from her role as Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa.

According to a statement issued by her spokesperson, James Agyenim-Boateng, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will officially step down after serving for seven years to focus on the Mahama for President 2024 campaign.

During her tenure, she oversaw significant reforms, making the university more functional and financially independent. Under her leadership, the university focused on empowering women who never had the opportunity to attend university at a younger age, as well as young women who were left out of high school. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also introduced flexible learning options and hands-on programs to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

She will preside over her final graduation ceremony on August 30, 2024, before returning to Accra to devote her attention to the presidential campaign.
