
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi has been appointed Chairman of the Legislative Review Committee (LRC) of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC). The LRC’s mandate is to review and harmonize the legal and institutional framework underpinning Ghana’s decentralization and local governance program.

The IMCC Executive Secretary, Dr. Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, described Professor Ahwoi as the “Father of Decentralisation in Ghana” and expressed confidence in the Committee’s ability to deliver a comprehensive legal review. Professor Ahwoi has reaffirmed his commitment to the task and the national decentralization agenda, emphasizing the importance of effective decentralization for sustainable development.
The Committee is composed of seasoned professionals in law, policy, and governance, and will work to identify and propose remedies for legal gaps within sectoral laws. The IMCC has assured the Committee of the necessary support to carry out its mandate.
